Former Minister for Trade & Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has told players in the small scale business sector to keep their hopes alive and vote massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming general elections in exchange for reduction in taxes.
Mr. Kyerematen who was also in charge of the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) during his days as Minister for Trade & Industry said the NPP when voted into power will reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 17.5% to 3%.
He believes the reduction in VAT will go a long way to assist players in the small scale industry to grow their business and employ more hands to boost the economy.
“What is hurting businesses are high taxes. VAT was pegged at17.5% for small scale businesses. When the NPP came to power, we reduced it to 3%. Now the NDC after so many years have increased it to 17.5%. Nana Akufo-Addo says I should tell you that when you give him the mandate to govern the country, he will reduce VAT to 3% for you”, he noted.
The NPP stalwart made this observation when he joined the party’s 2016 Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address party supporters and traders at Osu on Wednesday.
He further promised that the NPP will transform the Osu market into an industrial city since most of the traders there are into export business.
“Because most of you are in the export business, if you think this place is too small for you, we will collaborate with you to see how best we can expand this place. In the same way, if you think the place is too small for you, we will look for a bigger place which will be developed into an industrial park for you. If you want to stay here, then we will bring all the amenities here to assist your work,” he noted.

Where from this one too? VAT at 3%? Eeeei politicians would lie through their teeth just so they can win power. How is this possible when we are a middle income country and classified as debt distress? Stop this black lie, it wont help you.
NPP should stop this propoganda, this is a liar and they know it. This is something they can never do only trying to deceive Ghanaians but those are wise knows it is not going to happen
When vat was 10% you guys came and increase it, what is he saying. I respect this man alot but this one dieeer please come again. Ghanaians and not Joking.
2000 campaign message. Rawlings described them as chameleons who keep changing their names. Tweeeeeeaaaa! JM TOASO! #UsainBoltVictory
People should read and analyse what the man said, he was just referring to the small scale industry.
I JUST CHANGED MY MIND. 3% VAT? Period!!!
AM I DREAMING. IS IT THE kume preko VAT OR ANOTHER VAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. KWER ALAN BE BAD MAN WAA. HE WANTS NANA ADDO AND NPP TO BE REDICLE AND HAVE NEGATIVE IMPACT IN THE ELECTIONS. ANYWAY I DONT BLAME HIM, BCOS HE IS THE NEXT IN LINE AFTER OLD BOZO FALLS
You will take out all these taxes and even scrap import taxes yet you will create factories in all districts in Ghana. When you take out import taxes and people import things from China at a very low cost then who will you sell the produce of your so called factories in each district to? NPP is a total mess. They say they will not borrow, they will remove taxes, they will increase salaries and build many free, free, free! with which money? sad there are no advisers in NPP. NDC will hook them and tie them to their yet to be launched manifesto. Watch out
Akufo Addo went on kume preko demonstration because of the introduction of vat for which some lost their life, promising to scrap vat if the NPP comes to power. They came to power, n what happened? they increased the vat rate.
How can you talk like this. BIG SHAME
