The port of Takoradi is the country's first commercial port opened in 1928 to facilitate Ghana’s international trade.

The expansion has become necessary in view of pressing trade demands.

The project which is expected to be completed in 2016 is being financed under a commercial loan and another from the Chinese development Bank.

Phase one of the project is expected to cost € 197 million while phase two will cost $ 176 million.
