The social networking community can now access Twitter through sms. This follows Tigo’s introduction of the first-ever Twitter SMS service to social media fans in the country.

The Tigo Twitter SMS service allows all Tigo subscribers (prepaid and postpaid) to send and receive tweets through text messages. This means that twitter users can now use the social media service from any mobile phone without any connection to the Internet.

To sign on to the Twitter SMS service, Tigo subscribers must send a text message with the word “START” to short code 40404. Subscribers will start enjoying the social media service by receiving tweets free of charge from the people they follow. They will only be charged when they send out tweets.

Before Tigo introduced the Twitter SMS service, the company had rolled-out other innovative solution-based products and services such as the Facebook Phone which allows subscribers to access facebook at the touch of a dedicated button, and the Facebook SMS service which also allows subscribers to receive and post comments on Facebook through SMS.

Tigo was also the first network to introduce two innovative services - Tigo Family Care Insurance and Tigo ads. Tigo Family Care Insurance provides insurance cover for subscribers and one family member for free. Tigo Ads provides subscribers with relevant and engaging advertising experiences.

Tigo has indicated that it is committed to introducing products and services that will enhance the social experience of its subscribers on the network. Subscribers can express themselves through social media anytime, anywhere.
