Canada And UK Governments To Support Ghana

Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Friday announced that the governments of the United Kingdom and Canada had pledged to help Ghana to achieve her development goals.

He said while Canada had expressed an interest in supporting the Savanna Accelerated Development authority (SADA) project, the United Kingdom would also support Ghana to achieve her democratic and constitutional goals.

Vice President Mahama, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Perth after holding closed-door bilateral relations with the two countries, said while Canada had requested to know the comprehensive development plan of SADA, the UK government had also expressed interest in supporting Ghana's democratic development.

He noted that Canada had been Ghana's development partner in the areas of water and sanitation and had pledged to elevate its role in the SADA project through the activities of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

On the UK government, Vice President Mahama said, that government had pledged to continue to support Ghana's developing democracy to serve as the model on the African continent and gave the assurance that Ghana would continue to respect all the protocols that would provide access to the status of developed democracies in the world.

On food security and women empowerment, Vice President Mahama said Ghana,had embarked on an aggressive food production drive and even become a major supplier to the World Food Programme.

He said the Commonwealth had over the years supported Ghana in terms of scholarships and development projects and therefore needed to be supported to accomplish all her development goals in the coming years.
