Some angry workers of the Tema Pioneer Food Cannery have threatened court action against their management over a recycling plant located within the premises.

Though they are not totally against that facility, their health is being threatened by the location of the plant. They expect government to put pressure on the management to relocate the plant since it poses as a health hazard to them.

Below is an unedited petition from the leadership of the workers copied to Citifmonline. com:

For fear of victimization and possible lost of our jobs, permit us to bring these concerns to government attention by remaining anonymous.

We the aggrieved workers have realized that the new owners of the company do not have our health and safety at heart, hence if care is not taken we will be at risk and in the event of any major industrial accident, the outcome will be catastrophic.

-The entire land space of the factory is being covered with various installations and the only space left is the area for the discharge of fish, waste and other supplies.

- The situation has been a source of worry and causes various accidents here in the factory daily. -Poor ventilation- already the congestion here has been a contributory factor to poor ventilation and its attendant increase in respiratory disease is affecting the workforce.

-The additional installation (fish meal plant) according our checks produce high emissions and heat that adds up to the already stuffy environment we operate in.

-We believe any additional installation of another kind will block the remaining space left and that will be a great disservice to the safety and our health as workers.

-What we see is the penchant of the new owners of PFC from Thailand who are undertaking projects without assessing the real implication of the projects on the workers health.
