Workers of Century Industries, a subsidiary of Melcom Group of Companies have told Citi Business News they will continue to picket on the premises of the company till issues relating to their conditions of service are addressed.

The workers began picketing at the premises of the manufacturing unit on Monday in a bid to get management of the company to pay them their end of service benefits after they were dismissed for going on strike last Monday for improved services. A memo cited by Citi Business News asked workers who were still interested in their jobs to reapply for their position within 72 hours of notice. CBN has learnt the issue has been referred to the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The Management of the company together with the union leaders and the NLC are due to meet on Wednesday to continue with talks.

Early on, the Chief Operating Officer of Melcom Group of Companies, Arvinder Singh, told CBN the company is hopeful the issue will be resolved soon.

“I don’t want to discuss the specifics, but we are discussing it closely,” Singh told CBN.

Daniel Morgan, who is the local union president of the workers said the workers will decide on their next line of action after tomorrow’s meeting with the NLC .
