The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has closed down Chesville Hotel Limited, a two-star-hotel at Fiapre near Sunyani for non payment of tax amounting to GH50,775 since last year.
Mr Peter Danso Kyeremateng, Head of Small Tax Payer Office of GRA in Sunyani, who made this known to Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, said the exercise was jointly undertaken by a team from the Compliance Enforcement Debt Management Unit of GRA in Accra and the Sunyani Unit.
He said the four-day exercise commenced on Monday, leading to the closing down of Kofi Binyo Company Limited, a teak processing firm in Sunyani, which was owing the State GH34,000.00.
Mr Kyeremateng explained that both companies defaulted in the payment of tax and the only option left to recover the money is distress action.
Distress action involves the seizure of the properties of a business concern or closing the premises until the full payment of the debt, he explained.
