The Ghana Federation of Labour has thrown its weight behind an impending demonstration against government by the over 2500 textile workers across the country.

The textile workers are aggrieved at the high rate of importation of pirated textiles into the country.

Speaking to Citi News Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson said, “If they can or will allow these goods to come from anywhere, from Afloa to Paga, or Burkina throw Elubu, we don’t care. What we care is about making sure that those who steal our designs are arrested that all.”

He maintained that industry workers will make sure that nobody brings pirated designs to come and destroy their work in country.

Meanwhile Hundreds of textile workers last December demonstrated through some principal streets of Accra on a similar concern.

According to Mr. Abraham Koomson, they are currently in talks with the Greater Accra police command to negotiate the routes for their demonstration.

“These things you have to notify the police so it is a process we are initiating. So the police may say they don't have the men, so we have to go through this before we can come out with a definite date. If it will be even on weekly basis that they will have to demonstrate they will do it,” he said.
