Vodafone is seeking to cut around 6,000 jobs in Germany, representing 5.7 percent of its workforce.
Vodafone Germany said it has been grappling with harsh competition and lower revenues.
According to the company, it has begun voluntary job cuts. However, nobody has been forced to accept the offer.
The cutbacks come on top of a two-year restructuring programme launched by Vodafone Germany in April last year, affecting 500 jobs.
In 2009, Vodafone cut more than 2,000 jobs in Ghana when it took over Ghana Telecom in 2008.
