Amandi Energy, an Independent Power Producer has disclosed that it has reached the final phase of preparatory works to commence work on a 200MW plant in Aboadze, near Takoradi in the Western Region to sell power to the Electricity Company to support the countrys current generating capacity.
The company which is a subsidiary of Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) is poised to invest in the energy sector and make meaningful impact just as its mother company STL has done in the security and banking sector over the years.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum Hon John Abudulai Jinapor who joined a roundtable discussion to deliberate on ways Amandi Energy could impact positively on the Ghanaian economy and communities in its operation area, commended Amandi Energy for their plan to add 200MW of electricity to the national grid, noting that it is timely as it will augment governments target of 5000MW by 2016.
He said the entire northern part of the country consumes a total of 100MW, so government considers the Amandi Energy project very important in addressing energy issues in the country, noting his eagerness that their plant which will be fired by gas will start production at a time Ghana Gas Project in Atuabo begins full operation.
He said the issue of power rationing or load shedding is critical as it has the potential to affect voting pattern during elections, which is why government is not relenting on its bid to encourage more Independent Power Producers to invest in the power sector.
Our policy is to work with the private sector; government alone cannot provide sufficient, adequate and reliable supply of energy that is why we are always seeking to encourage more investment into this sector.
Hon Jinapor further stated governments willingness to support and ensure the success of the project whiles urging them to endeavor to abide by laid down procedures and laws governing the energy sector.
