Deputy Communications Minister George Andah has described former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama as a "disgrace" to his "profession", following comments by the latter regarding government's launch of the first phase of the mobile money interoperability system.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, May 10, 2018, launched the cross-network mobile money transactions system in Ghana.
Prior to that, at the University of Cape Coast when he spoke at the school’s Institutional Advancement Lecture last year, Dr Bawumia reportedly said: “There were many people who were offering similar solutions, but thankfully the BoG in collaboration with GhIPSS has finally been able to solve this problem and the interoperability system for Ghana will be launched next month.”
“What is even more remarkable about what has happened is that, again, a lot of people were quoting billions of dollars and it became an issue of public debate, but by the way, this system has now been built for less than $4 million dollars.”
But days after the launch, the former Deputy Governor of the BoG rebuffed claims that the interoperability contract awarded under the Mahama administration was overpriced.
At a press conference in Accra, Dr Asiama stressed that the new system launched by the Vice-President, is different in scope from the original contract; hence the disparity in the contract.
Interestingly, eventhough he conceded not having seen the scope of the current system launched by the Veep, the former deputy BoG Governor insisted it might not be as comprehensive as was envisaged under the original contract.
“I am out of office and I cannot say what is being done now but if I look at the details and scope of work in the original contract as stated here, it goes far beyond what was launched last week....It is like comparing antelope and an elephant…I am not sure the price will be same…” he said.
Contributing to a panel discussion on the subject on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, George Andah asked Dr. Asiama to "go back and get his facts right. He’s become a bit of a disgrace to himself and the profession…"
To him, the former BOG Governor is a big liar and is somehow used by his "paymasters" to "he’s confusing the good people of Ghana".
"He’s telling lies...He’s trying to confuse the good people of Ghana. He’s being used for something like this…He cannot be doing on his own”.

Do we always have to rain insults on one another for sharing different opinions even if out of "gauge"? Please Mr Andah you need to change. You have come this far and we expect some decent language. Thank you for changing.
In Ghana, you will be a ***barred word*** if you chop government money when the opportunity presents itself. Afterall you will get the very people suffering to defend you. Otherwise I wouldn't imagine people defending the SSNIT chop chop and this project. Those who are waiting on God to punish those choping our money would be dissappointed in their life time.Koo, chop your own ooo, it is Ghana money. You will be defended, even armed robbers caught red handed have good lawyers to defend them.
I will not mince words, the man is simply a th13f, how can he come out to say they are not the same, when in actual fact, is performing the same function, NDC, (John Mahama ) is Sat@n, they never give anything for free, when he offers you one, he takes billions away from you, have you forgotten about the presidential jet, the hangar (garage) and the entertainment facilities in the jet were more expensive than the plane, Fufuso Sola road, bus branding, Gyeeda, Suba, Isofoton , who in this country doesn’t know John Mahama and his party are suff3ring from Creptomania ( irresistible act of st3aling)
If Johnson Asiamah is a disgrace and a liar, we must say so. How can an economist like Asiamah make illogical arguments to justify this contract? I would have forgiven Mahama because we know him for what he does...including housing project that never be, Merchant Bank collapse with his brother taking a whooping loan, Ford saga just to mention but a few. But for Asiamah defending this contract is indefensible. Who mentioned his name? He only worked at Bank of Ghana and he was not the Governor. Acountants and professors like Joshua Abor were on board but it happened. Educated people are disgracing themselves and their profession
I have said nothing ? Then why respond to nothing?Of course judgement awaits all of us But more so the people who have taken food off the tables of millions of Ghanaians. Do they think they will live to enjoy the millions they have l00ted?It is because of cretinous creatures like you that this country continues to be poor in the midst of plenty. No amount of money on this God's earth will make me a fan of John Maham.a. The man will be consumed by his own avarice.
you have said nothing. just protecting the money you are receiving from NPP. judgement awaits us all
Sometimes I wonder if the greater majority of Ghanaians are just plain ***barred word*** or are just gluttons for punishment. This is a bunch of technocrats conniving with a totally corrupt political group to fleece the good people of Ghana and people are happy with it.Is it that our brains have been atrophied or we have lived with corrupt officials for so long that ,we cannot see the need to change. If these hoodlums believed that everything was above board in the said agreement why did they put in so many clauses that will make the country pay millions in case the bogus agreement was abrogated?we, as a people don't even know what is good for us!
Andah is a fuuuuuuul.
Mr. Asiamah be very careful with Ndc. I understand Ndc wants to sell you like the way Npp done to Bawumiah and to become a running mate of Ndc presidential candidate. I will advise, you should act professional at the end Ghanaians will reward you.
What is disgraceful about the former deputy's statement? The man voiced his opinion. If its uninformed, fine, say so, but do you know what disgraceful is. George Andah as CEO of Glo Ghana and Glo Ghana refusing to pay O&M Contractors per stipulated contractual terms, and cancelling contracts when contractor complains, and him George Andah calling contractors and say to the manage for now is disgraceful. When Glo Ghana bypasses ECG Meters in 3/4 regions and use electricity free for like 6/7mths and he knowingly doesn't report to ECG, that is disgraceful,.... nan-seense.
