This evening, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, relieved the Minister of Energy, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, of his position. It follows two weeks of controversy resulting from the renegotiated Ameri deal, which was presented to parliament.
The sacking of Boakye Agyarko appears to confirm rumours from the inner circles of government that Mr. Agyarko misled the president into approving the deal.
I don’t hold brief for Boakye Agarko, but I don’t buy this story that the President was misled in the renegotiated Ameri deal. This is how I understand it: The government renegotiated a terrible deal and submitted it to parliament. The citizens (not spectators) rose against it. They pointed out that the deal was worse than the one signed by the NDC government.
The government appeared embarrassed and decided to withdraw the deal. The government should have been honest enough to tell us that it had listened to our concerns and decided to withdraw the deal. For me, it is a positive thing if the government halts a deal because of the opposition of the masses. I have stated that I prefer a government that embarrassingly withdraws a bad deal than one that adamantly sticks to it despite concerns of the people.
This situation would definitely embarrass any government, and the uneasiness being felt by the Akufo-Addo government is understandable. But the allegation that the president was misled sounds funny because of a number of reasons.
We know that the President gave approval for this deal. The Presient’s press secretary, Eugene Arhin, has confirmed this. So how exactly was the President misled? How possible was it for Boakye Agyarko to single-handedly review Ameri and present to the President considering the fact that Ameri is such a contentious issue in this country? Granted that Mr. Agyarko single-handedly submitted this deal to the President, what questions did he ask before approving the deal to be tabled in parliament?
Has the Akufo-Addo government been reduced to the level of a wayside kelewele business so that such an important deal as Ameri would not merit the attention of his cabinet? Looking at the financial implications of the deal, did the president not consult the Economic Management Team before giving his approval? Is the government saying that it just relied on only one man to take the decision on Ameri?
And if the President can sit down, just listen to a minister’s brief on an issue that has multi-sectoral implications and give approval, what is the guarantee that many more misters will not mislead him?
If the public had not resisted this deal, would anybody have suggested that the president was misled? When the deal first emerged the government defended it only to turn around to say the President was misled? Again, how exactly did Mr. Agyarko mislead President Akufo-Addo?

SOME OF US ARE WAITING TO READ AN ARTICLE BY MANASSEH ON THE THE CAPITAL ONE BANK SAGA.
COMPETENT PRESIDENT BEING BUSILY MISLED.....................SMH.......ASK THEM AGAIN.THEY THINK GOVERNANCE IS A KELEWELE BUSINESS................LOL
Please don't hurl insults at the young man, for, he has asked legitimate questions which deserve justifiable answers. The President is equally responsible for his decisions and mistakes just like any of his ministers in terms of their modus operandi. He could claim to have been misled if some fatal information was deliberately withheld from him
The same way you e been misled into thinking that (a) being called a shithole country by trump is deserving (b) America is the start-all and end-all and that money grows on trees here, (c) that there’s is no poverty in America , (d) that all you see as a passerby tourist in America is all there is. You seem to think that white people cannot be poor. Why am I attacking you from this angle? Because you fail to do research and ask questions. How about you get an appointment with the president and ask these pertinent questions instead of making up stuff in your imagination and passing them on as the honest truth? And you already know that 75% of your readers gobble up your opinionated write-ups, so whatever anyone else says is fake news. This Sir, makes you ‘TOO-KNOWN’.
@DKB, i can see you come from JANKOBAA, ***barred word*** ***barred word*** dog like you. Manase issue is directly right, so if you are not good in English better go back to Jankobaa for your ginger farming. Villager enter city like Accra, now behaving like new goat arrive in town.
@asgil, i agree with u. i have said that nana's main problem is his family members around him. i am sure they were involved in that deal and also the ones that misled him. he trusted them but i will advise him to becareful with them if he has the nation's interest at heart otherwise they will destroy every good plan he has. unless he is part of the plan. i am very sure Gabby was the one that misled him. anyway we are watching him and if things continue this way, we will advise ourselves in 2020 but we will not also vote for that corrupt party called ndc.
@Don Biko, did you said impacts society and benefits society? good gracious???
too much writing and talking, no time to think, that is Ghanaians for you
@dkb you are one of those people who can't think logically because it gives headache. What English did Manasseh write that is above your comprehension? Allow people whose job impacts society for the benefit of society. I won't be surprised if you are one of the goro boys running around and licking people's boots and as a result you can't find anything wrong with the bad deals government sign for the citizens.
Nana Addo shd try to reduce the number of family members around his govt else their actions and in actions will cause him dearly. in all these brouhaha, the blame shd be put at the doorstep of Garbby for telling us that govt was misled. we all know Agyarko didn't do anything wrong or on his own.
