A 43-year-old man who claims to be a car dealer but is well noted for snatching four-wheel vehicles has been caught in the web of the law.

Ernest Kofi Sarkodie, the accused, was arrested from his hideout at West Legon in Accra and later referred to the Kumasi Police.

Upon his arrest, and after investigations, he was charged with stealing and put before the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Court.

The court remanded him into prison custody to re-appear on March 27.

Briefing the court presided over by Mr William Boampong, Police Chief Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang said that the complainant in the case is a businessman who deals in car and resides at Kentikrono, a Kumasi suburb.

On October 3, 2013, a witness in the case went for a 4X4 Toyota Highlander valued at GH₵65,000 at Bekwai roundabout to be shown to the accused, who expressed interest to buy the car.

According to the prosecution, the said witness later went to inform the complainant that the accused had bolted with the car.

A report was made to the police and the witness was arrested to assist the police in investigation; efforts to trace the accused proved futile.

On March 17, the accused was arrested from his hideout, and in his statement admitted the offense and alleged his friend seized the car from him.
