Musician, 3 Others In Court For Stealing

A musician, Prince Kofi Agyenkwa and three other accomplices believed to be part of a syndicate who breaks into the homes of residents in the Accra Metropolis and steal their belongings, have been put before an Accra circuit court.

Agyenkwa; Godwin Amekah alias Kobbie, a driver; Kwaku Amoako alias Knajarga and Charles Benfo, both traders; were arraigned in a court presided over by Afia Agbani Kudamor and charged with conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, stealing and dishonestly receiving.

They were charged after they allegedly broke into the home of a banker and a contractor and made away with their personal effects, including laptops, television sets and $960.00.

They pleaded not guilty and have been granted bail each in the sum of GH¢40,000 with two sureties one of whom is to be a public officer.

Narrating events leading to the arrest of the suspects, the prosecutor in the case, ASP A.A. Sampana, told the court that the complainant is a banker and lives at Mantse Ayeku Avenue at Baatsona Spintex Road, Accra, in her mother’s house with her siblings.

According to him, the second complainant is a building contractor and lives at Coastal Estates near Nungua, Accra.

ASP Sampana added that the first accused person is a musician while the second is a driver who both live at Old Fadama while the third and the forth are traders and reside at Tip-Toe Lane, Accra.

He said on August 9, 2015 at about 10:15 am the banker and her family left their home for a wedding ceremony at Tema and returned at about 5:45 pm and detected that their house had been broken into and a 32-inche Samsung flat screen television set belonging to her mother, Mrs.Ama Ofori, one 32-inche Toshiba flat screen television set and one Dell laptop computer had been stolen.

The police officer also stated that one HP laptop computer, one Sony laptop computer and $960  belonging to her brother, Frank Yaw Ofori, one Acer Notebook and GH¢40 belonging to her cousin, Anita Addo, and an iPad were also stolen.

Furthermore, he said on the same day at about 1pm the Kaneshie police patrol team  intercepted the driver and the musician selling their booty to the third accused person and were all arrested.

ASP Sampana said the two admitted breaking into the house of the complainant and stealing all the items mentioned, adding that during interrogation they mentioned the areas they had operated between June and August as Spintex, Coastal Estates – where they broke into the contractor’s house and stole the HP laptop computer, Samsung Galaxy mobile phone.

The prosecutor disclosed that the suspects perpetrated the crimes at Teshie Nungua Estates, Sakumono Estates, Adenta Commandoes, Ashaley Botwe and Tema.
