A scrap dealer caught stealing electricity cables, the property of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has been sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour by the Akim-Swedru Circuit Court.
Daniel Oppong was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the crime.
Police Inspector William Arko Nyarko told the court, presided over by Mr. Alexander Oworae that the incident happened on October 04.
An eyewitness in the case saw the convict right in the act of cutting the overhead power distribution lines to Akim-Aboabo and Adotei with a plier and raised the alarm.
He attempted to escape with the about 30 yards of the 16-millimetre cable he had already cut but was chased and arrested.
Oppong was handed over together with the stolen cable to the police.
