An old boy of the Winneba Senior High School, Mr Essel Koomson, has launched a 10-year award scheme for brilliant students and the best teacher of his alma mater.

The award, which takes effect from the 2010 academic year, will reward final year students who will distinguish themselves in their various fields of study as well as the teacher who will be more committed to quality teaching.

Mr Koomson, who is also the Managing Director OF KEK Insurance Company, said this at the diamond jubilee celebration and speech and prize giving day of the school at Winneba.

The award category covers the best students in Accounting, Business Management, Economics, best female student and best teacher.

For their award the students will each receive 500 Ghana cedis and textbooks and the best teacher will receive 1,000 Ghana cedis.

Mr. Koomson said as an old boy of the school, the award formed part of contributing his widow's mite towards the attainment of academic excellence in the school.

He appealed to students and teachers to put in their maximum and keep the name of the school aloft.

The Board Chairman of the school, Prof. Kwesi Yankah who is also an old boy of the school, called on present and past students as well as parents to look into the future with a sense of optimism.
