RESPONSIBLE AND DECISIVE ACTION ON POTAG STRIKE

In the past few days, the Nation has witnessed an intemperate industrial environment with reference to Health and Education but of disturbing proportion is the impasse between the Ministry of Education and the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG).

The PNC expresses disgust at the recent comment by the Minister of Education on the current impasse with POTAG which in our view does not inspire working confidence.

The PNC’s disgust is not only about the distasteful nature of the Minister’s remarks but on the collateral damage it has on industrial relation cum the effects of a continued strike action.

We admonish that in moments of industrial unrests, cool heads are needed particularly by persons in authority. It is important that the Ministry and other actors keep faith with negotiations to resolve the impasse and not resort to threat.

Need we remind the Minister and the government that the continued withdrawal of services by POTAG brings untold difficulties on the student especially as cost of education and living are unbearable in the current state of our economy? Students, especially those in final year, have aspiration after the semester ends to: further studies, job opportunities and the like.

We expect our government and its assigns to act decisively and responsively to solve our national problems and not inflame already precarious situations.

Further, we call on POTAG to in the supreme interest of our Students and the future of our Nation; consider an amicable settlement so they can resume duties to safe our students from undue punishment and untold hardship.

Time is running out!!!

General Secretary
