The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) said it would provide the necessary research to support Ghana’s development efforts.

In that regard, UTAG would undertake skills audit to identify the various skills and expertise of its members that would lead to the creation of the right synergies for research policy analysis in Ghana.

A communiqué issued and signed by Dr Samuel O. Bekoe, National President and Dr Samuel A. Atinono, National Secretary of UTAG, said this on Thursday.

It said the association would, in the near future, organise a conference to serve as a platform for its members with various skills and expertise to present papers on cross cutting edge research that would contribute towards national development.

National development policies would also be discussed at such conferences.

The communiqué was issued after the Biennial National Delegates Congress at the University of Education, Winneba, which offered the members the opportunity to deliberate on issues of interest to the organisation and Ghana.

The association would work to enhance its visibility and further promote its contribution on national issues through the media by identifying experts in the various disciplines among members in academia who would be connected to comment on issues of national interest.

The association, however, said it would resist the removal of the book and research allowances by the government through dialogue and all other means necessary to maintain the allowances.

“UTAG will continue to fight for the welfare of its members with respect to salary and allowances.

“The association has resolved to continue to work hard and be committed to maintaining a united front to promote the principle of common action among its members,” the communiqué said.
