Inadequate accommodation for teachers of the Wa Senior High Technical School has resulted in immorality and indiscipline among students, with some causing illegal abortion on campus.

Out of the 78 teachers, only 12 are accommodated on campus,  thereby making it difficult for them to strictly monitor the activities of the 2,328 students, Mr. Gaeten Bayel, Headmaster of the school, told parents at the Annual Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) Meeting in Wa, on Saturday.

He said even though the school had been provided with a defence wall with barbed wire erected on the top, some students had been able to cut off some portions of the wire off, which they jump through to visit their friends in the night.

This practice, Bayel said, was impacting negatively on the quality of teaching and learning, and should not be allowed to continue otherwise it would defeat the objective for which the school was established.

He said some of the students had been caught jumping over the wall and were punished.

He expressed worry that many of the students were still very young and urged parents to play their roles appropriately in the proper upbringing of their children.

Parents, he said, should monitor the activities of their girls and friends to protect them from unscrupulous men who may want to take advantage of them, especially, during their vacations.

The headmaster commended the government for providing infrastructure for the school and appealed for more facilities to make the school self-sufficient to help enhance teaching and learning.

“It is the cardinal objective of teachers in the school to turn out quality graduates to help to grow Ghana’s economy through meaningful contributions,” he pointed out.

Mr. Bayel also commended the PTA for its enormous contribution towards the provision of infrastructure and other facilities, and for helping to instill discipline in the students.

“Besides the government, the PTA and the Old Boys; Association of the school are our strength, and sources of our support,” he pointed out.
