150 Ghost Names Deleted From Agona East GES Payroll

A total of 150 Ghost names have been deleted from the Agona East Ghana Education Service (GES) payroll, the District Director of the Service, Dr Alhaji Abdulai Salam Adam has said.

Dr Alhaji Adam made this known at the seventh Speech and Prize giving Day and 24th anniversary celebration of Kwanyako Senior High and Technical School at Agona Kwanyako.

He explained that the deal was perpetrated by some staff of the Service and Controller and Accountant General’s Department in Accra, adding that staffs involved have been dealt with.

Dr Alhaji Adam said the vigilance of the GES directors at Agona East district saved the nation millions of Ghana Cedis, which could have gone into individual pockets.

The Director said to avoid similar occurrences names of teachers in the District have been registered with their pictures attached, to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to prevent fraud.

According to the Director, the Agona East directorate has put in place measures to curb the teacher absenteeism and lateness to school.

He said the district has received five motor bikes from the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mrs Queenster Pokuaa Sawyer to argument supervision of schools.

Dr Adam hinted that the District has made three pick-ups vehicles available to the teachers and non-teaching staff who commute from Agona Swedru and other towns to schools and office to help them avoid lateness.

Mrs Angelina Ocansey, Headmistress of the School, appealed to the government, Agona East District Assembly and philanthropists to help the school with classrooms to alleviate accommodation problems facing the institute.

According to her, student population continue to increase, making some of them study under canopies and unapproved structures.
