Jackson College of Education (JCE) has held its maiden national SRC congress to elect National SRC Executives in Kumasi. The congress was attended by SRC Executives and observers drawn from all the 30 study centres in the country.

The event was held under the theme: The Role of Students in enhancing quality education through Distance Learning.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal of the College, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson urged the new executives of the Students Representative Council (SRC), to be adequately prepared to face the inevitable challenges, and overcome them with strong determination.

The Principal pointed out that indeed, the more one learns, the more one realises what one does not know, because quality is not what one does right, but how one does it differently.

She therefore, encouraged the SRC, and the student body, to go the extra mile in their endeavours since much is expected of them, both internally and externally.

She also entreated them to be sober, diligent and respectful. “You should develop the ability to listen and dialogue meaningfully, in the supreme interest of the College,” she stressed.

The Principal asked the executives of the SRC, to always call on the College's authorities at every moment in order to tap their experiences. According to her, this would not only go a long way to help them succeed in their endeavours, but also, add to their rich intelligence.

Administering the Oath of Office, Mr. Owusu Afriyie, Acting Vice-Principal Academics, implored the SRC executives to be tolerant, transparent and focused.

“You must be flexible to welcome criticisms, suggestions and good counsel from among your fellow students, to enhance student administration in your various study centres,” he advised.
He tasked the students to overcome mediocrity, indecency and other vices on and off campus, to preserve and protect the good image of the college.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Abigail Anyama Bossman the first female SRC President of the College, thanked the students for the confidence reposed in her. She pledged to contribute significantly to the development of the College. She further disclosed her personal commitment to help market the College.

Ms. Abigail Anyama Bossman appealed to her fellow students to be morally, ethically and physically upright, circumspective and decent in their discourse.

She charged the student body to contribute meaningfully as partners in developing the college.

She advised the students to settle their fees in good time, to enable the council carry out its programmes and activities.

Prof. Ebenezer Asafua Jackson, Director of the College appealed to the new SRC to live above personal interests, and seek the welfare of all students.

Salisu Issah Nabika of Hohoe study centre, Felicia Kufe Simpi of Ada study centre, Isaac Yeboah of Accra study centre and Esther Atsupey Agu of Ada study centre were elected as General Secretary, Coordinating Secretary, Financial Secretary and Women’s Commissioner respectively.
