Joseph Ashon-Cudjiw, former Deputy News Editor of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has appealed to Ghanaians to embrace the free Senior High School (SHS) programme and see it as a divine miracle to wipe away the tears of the poor through President Akufo-Addo.

He said some Ghanaians have over the years cried unto God to provide avenues for them to send their wards to secondary schools.

Mr Ashon-Cudjiw, who was speaking to Ghana News Agency on the interventions of the current government, said with the advent of the free SHS programme, the poor, including widows, single parents, can now send their wards to school without difficulties.

The veteran journalist said the programme has also saved parents and guardians the ordeal of borrowing with high interest rates to send their children to school.

Mr Ashon-Cudjiw, a former chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Ngleshie Amanfrom Senior High School, said this has taken away financial stress which is associated health hazards.

The one-time President of The Travel Writers Association of Ghana (TWAG) said with the implementation of the free SHS programme, a sound foundation would be laid for the development of highly skilled human resources to reduce illiteracy rate.

He appealed to all PTAs in the country to take centre stage in the crusade to get all children enrolled under the free SHS programme.
