Members of Parliament have urged government and relevant stakeholders in the country to condemn and help prevent all forms of violence against women such as marital rape, wife beating, child and forced marriages, trokosi, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), branding of women as witches and humiliating widowhood rites.
The MPs made the call in Parliament during their contribution to a statement made by Hon. Mary Salifu Boforo, MP for Savelugu to mark international Day for the elimination of violence against women which falls on November 25.
Hon. Boforo observed that some traditional values and cultural practices seem to bestow a low status on the girl child and women. She said the consequence of violence against women is very devastating.
