Peace & Love Hospital (PLH) in Ghana, parent company of Breast Care International (BCI), a non-governmental organization championing breast cancer awareness in Ghana, has entered into a partnership with the Linda Loma University in California, USA to enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
The agreement seeks to establish and develop collaboration between the two institutions in the joint planning and implementation of educational and research services in the area of public health practice and research through capacity building programmes.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the CEO of Peace & Love Hospital (PLH) in Ghana, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addae and Dr. Richard Hart, President of Linda Loma University in the USA.
A statement from LLU highlighting the significance of the agreement pointed out that the MOU does not impose financial obligation on either LLU or BCI. The partnership will run for three years commencing on July 1, 2011 until June 30, 2013 and subject to renewal; 60 days before each three-year term ends. Each party can however abrogate the agreement in writing.
Below is a copy of the Statement on the MOU signed between the two parties.
The Loma Linda University (LLU) in Loma Linda, California, USA and the Peace & Love Hospitals (PLH) in Ghana, formally agree to work in partnership to develop and implement public health related projects for the purpose of enhancing services delivery to improve public heath, healthcare services, program development and workforce development. LLU and PLH seek a long-term relationship and shall make every effort to work together in spirit of openness, trust and good faith.
LLU and PLH propose to continue the development of their relationship through collaboration in public health practice, practice-based research, and academics, thereby leveraging effects to build capacity and advance public health programs of both organizations, contingent on financial and personnel resource availability.
Following are the proposed areas of joint collaboration between our organizations:
a. PERSONNEL COLLABORATION:
Faculty, Staff & Students Collaboration of faculty, Staff and students between LLU and PLH, either on shoot term or long-term basis, will serve to benefit both organizations in the development of community based public health programs, and health administration through training and resource sharing. The organisations will establish procedures for the collaboration and placement of personnel, based on project or academic requirement and need. The host organisation will facilitate the entry permit requirement of the exchange personnel.
b. PRACTICE & PRACTICE-BASED RESEARCH COLLABORATION:
LLU and PLH will collaborate, where appropriate, in ongoing practice and practice-based research activities and in effects to secure funding for those initiatives and programs through preparation and submission of joint finding proposals in their respective and mutual areas of interest. This will enhance the capacity of both organizations to provide services in public health and health service disciplines at both organisations.
c. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE:
Loma Linda University will provide technical assistance to PLH for collaborative grant funding opportunities.
d. SPECIFIC PROJECTS:
All individual projects will be coordinated between LLU and PLH, which will be agreed upon in advance. LLU and PLH will outline the individual projects in writing providing details regarding the recipient hospitals or organizations, the products or good�s to be distributed, and goals and expected outcome of the project.
e. DISCLOSURE:
Any information that impacts accomplishment of the program or individual project�s goals and objectives will be shared between all parties as soon as possible. LLU and PLH agree to share fully among themselves all information that is necessary to achieve the program objectives.
f. TERM:
This Memorandum of Understanding shall be in effect for a three (3) year period, commencing on July 1, 2011 until June 30, 2013. It shall automatically renew every three years, 60 days before each three-year term ends, unless terminate in writing by either LLU or PLH.
g. OTHER RELATED ISSUES:
All disputes pertaining to this agreement will be resolved through negotiations of the parties. In case LLU or PLH cannot reach agreement by means of negotiation, they have recourse to meditation by a mutually agreed upon mediator.
h. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS:
This Agreement does not impose any financial obligation on LLU and PLH. Each organization will bear its own costs and expenses incurred in the performance of this Memorandum of Understanding.
