The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commenced a pilot project to register new subscribers onto the NHIS Biometrically. The exercise which began on Monday, June 17, 2013 is expected to last for a month and will also cover membership renewals.
The pilot exercise is being undertaken in two districts, Ayawaso and La, in the Greater Accra region and is limited to a selected number of personnel from the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces only.
The Biometric registration exercise comes with instant issuance of NHIS ID cards.
It is expected that a successful pilot would be followed by a nation-wide scale-up of the exercise. Health service providers for this pilot are the 37 Military and Police Hospitals in Accra.
Key objectives for implementing the Biometric Solution are to:
ďż˝ Issue Instant membership ID cards leading to improved card management.
ďż˝ Clean the membership database by using a Biometric Solution as a means of preventing duplicate records;
ďż˝ Implement an effective verification (authentication) system at the point of healthcare service delivery;
The NHIA seeks the cooperation of all to make this exercise a success.
Thank you.
