More than 200 members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Association (GNAT-LASS) in the Greater Accra Region last weekend embarked on a health awareness walk as part of activities to mark the International Women’s Day (IWD).

The walk, which was under the theme: “Inspiring Change In Health and Healthy Lifestyle”, started from the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Poloma Restaurant and finally to the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), Kokomlemle, amidst brass band music and display of placards bearing various messages.

A resource person from the University Of Ghana, Dr Collins Agyeman-Badu, a psychologist, urged policy makers to “come up with policies that will ensure that employers have a stress-free working environment.”

Dr Agyeman-Badu further urged employers to institute what he referred to as ‘psychological insurance’ for their employees against stressful working conditions.

The Psychologist further said though both men and women could experience stress, the condition was rather higher in women, adding, “Take steps to adopt a policy of personal discipline to avoid factors that could lead to stress.”

The GNAT-LASS Coordinator for the Greater Accra Region, Lydia Ama Fuah, said the event was a platform to sensitise teachers and the rest of the public on the need to maintain healthy lifestyles.
