The board of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), headed by Dr. Okoe Boye, has given approval for the appointment of Dr. Daniel Asare as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the teaching hospital.

The appointment comes less than two months since the inauguration of the board by Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, indicating the importance of having a head for the tertiary institution after Dr. Felix Anyah, immediate past CEO, was relieved of his post.

Announcing the new head of the tertiary institution at a press meeting in Accra, Dr. Boye said his appointment comes at a time when all stakeholders must work together to make Korle-Bu “work again”.

“We are happy that we have settled on the Chief Executive Officer for the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The new Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is Dr. Daniel Asare,” he announced.

Dr. Asare has been practising as a physician for over 27 years with over 17 years in hospital management and clinical care.

He is a key resource person when it comes to clinical care and hospital administration and has served as the CEO of the Cape Coast Hospital.

Dr. Boye explained that the new CEO was selected using very important factors such as competence, capacity to deliver on targets and handle the day to day running of a teaching hospital, experience in hospital management, flexibility to adjust to new conditions and new people.

“We have a task and it starts with the right leadership so we believe that today the process has just started to significantly address our challenges and give significant care to all Ghanaians,” the KBTH board chair said.

“Expect some performance contract should come out with strategic deliverables or plan for the next few years in line with the key performance indicators,” he added.

Dr. Asare, addressing the media, expressed his delight at joining the Korle-Bu family through his appointment as the new CEO of the hospital.

“I stand wholeheartedly to serve my country Ghana in this capacity as the CEO.

I am here to serve. I am here to team up with board, management, senior staff, junior staff and all those who matter in this hospital most importantly patient groups to ensure we build on what the former CEOs have started and improve on the quality of care,” he underscored.
