WACAM, a non-governmental advocacy organisation in mining communities, has described Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin as an embodiment of relevant indigenous knowledge that provides solutions to contemporary challenges like sustainable development, climate-change and HIV/AIDS.

WACAM said Osagyefo Amoatia has become a model of Traditional Authority and has won respect and admiration among the poor and disadvantaged people; environmentalists; civil society organisations; academics and politicians.

These were contained in a congratulatory message WACAM sent to Osagyefo Amoatia on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his ascending the Paramount Ofori Panin Stool of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

The message signed by Mr Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, Executive Director of WACAM, said: “The work of Osagyefo Amoatia is deeply rooted in patriotism and strong commitment to protect the environment for posterity.”

It said: “In an era where power is might; Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin as a Great King has demonstrated humility and engaged in Celebrity Advocacy for the poor and politically disadvantaged people.

“Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has been an ardent advocate of responsible exploitation of natural resources by ensuring that in meeting the needs of the present generation we do not destroy opportunities for future generations to meet their needs.”

WACAM said: “Osagyefo Amoatia has gained national and international recognition and respect for his commitment to the protection of Forest Reserves for future generations despite the pressures of corporate giants to mine in Forest Reserves in Ghana.

“Osagyefo Amoatia’s vision of institutionalising environmental education in Ghana through the establishment of a University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies needs commendation and support of all patriotic Ghanaians and institutions.”

The message said: “The decade of Osagyefo Amoatia’s reign has been a period of excellence in demonstrating the relevance of indigenous knowledge in addressing contemporary national and global challenges.

“It is in the recognition of the invaluable contributions of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin to environmental and social justice that WACAM shares in the joy of the 10th anniversary celebration of his enstoolment and prays that he would continue to be a fountain of knowledge and hope for many people, especially the poor,” the message said.
