The Rev Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has called on religious bodies to work in close partnership with the state to bring down the rising unemployment.

He said this demanded helping to train the youth to acquire employable skills and become economically self-supporting.

The Rev. Opuni-Frimpong was speaking at an induction service for the Rev James Kumi Duodu, the new Minister for the Patasi District of the Presbyterian Church in Kumasi.

He said the church must accept to serve as a strategic partner of the state in the development of the nation.

"We must be seen to be doing more to help address the socio-economic problems facing the people. Let us not forget that it is only when people are at peace with themselves that they could perform their duties to the church."

The Rev Opuni-Frimpong said Information Communication Technology was one area where the Church could help to train the youth.

He said when young people were adequately engaged in productive activities they would not have the appetite for socially reprehensible behaviours.
