For some people the dropping of their pants and showing of their back-sides to public transportation vehicles is celebratory, for others it's part of a hate crime.

Jay Cornwell III, 38, a Commerce City, Colorado man, is accused of third-degree assault and harassment for allegedly exposing his bare buttocks and striking another passenger on a public bus, Fox31 reports.

On the night of July 7, the Summit County Sherrif’s Department are saying that Cornwell dropped his pants and exposed his rear-end, verbally and physically assaulted another bus passenger. The incident became so heated that police are considering it a hate crime, The Denver Post reports.

The Summit County Citizens Voice reports that Cornwell is charged with third-degree assault, bias-motivated crimes, and harassment. According to 9News, if Cornwell is convicted of the assault and harassment charges, he faces up to 18 months in jail, but if convicted of the bias-motivated crime, he could serve up to three years in jail.

The gender and race of the person allegedly assaulted and harassed by Cornwell has not been released by authorities, according to The Denver Post.
