Kofi Owusu Boateng, Secretary to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, contends that the ancestral jewels belonging to the Royal Asante Kingdom which were stolen in Norway's Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, cannot lead to the destoolment of the Asantehene.
The police in Norway are investigating a theft case of some precious, inherited crown jewels stolen from Otumfuo in the lobby of the downtown Hotel.
The Asantehene is representing Ghana at a conference in the Norwegian capital.
The suitcase containing the jewels was allegedly stolen from the lobby of the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel.
The jewels, amassed over generations and considered to be priceless, are used by the king when he performs ceremonial duties.
Some are of the view that if the Asantehene returns to Ghana without the jewels, he can be destooled.
However, speaking on BBC's Focus on Africa, Kofi Owusu Boateng said the Asantehene cannot be destooled since the jewels were only "a few" meant to be used for a day's programme.
I cant put any value on it; they were just a few of them and they were contained in a very small bag; a briefcasepeople thought that it was a big suitcase but no, it was very small containing something he was going to use for a day. It is not such a big deal as people are speculating he said.
