Spokesperson of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Works, Housing and Water Resources J. T. Abebrese has suggested that GH3m is enough to solve the water crisis that has hit the country, in a short term.
He said urban water shortage, which appears to be unsurmountable to successive governments after the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah, has a short term and long term solution to it.
Speaking on TV3s Midday Live, Mr Abebrese stated that Kwame Nkrumahs government between 1957 and 1966 was able to provide water to the population then because pragmatic measures were put in place.
He laments the helplessness of subsequent governments to find lasting solution to the problem.
In a long term, we need close to $500m, he suggested.
Last Tuesday, CPP outlined measures that can be employed to solve the water crisis once and for all.
Among other things, the party's statement suggested that government must make plans to fund the Ghana Water Company Limited in order to put the utility company in a position to embark on a repair and retooling exercise.
Mr Abebrese said the GH3m will help in getting machinery for the exercise.
