A number of police personnel have been captured on video footages extorting money and behaving unprofessionally across the country.
The personnel were captured at various police barriers and checkpoints across the country through surveillance cameras.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Rose Bio Atinga, Director-General of police administration, disclosed this during the end-of-year party (WASSA) of the Accra Regional Police Command last Friday.
She said the police administration has started with disciplinary measures against those caught on the videos.
She said criminal action would be initiated where necessary.
COP Atinga said, This is not a nine-day wonder, we will continue and ensure that the bad nuts in this reputable institution are rid of.
She cautioned all police personnel to behave professionally in the exercise of their duty and always keep in mind their motto Service with Integrity.
ACP Angwubutoge Awuni, Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commander, explained that same video footages also captured some who were unprofessional as they failed to conduct proper checks on vehicles they stopped.
Others were also seen either idling or conversing in groups on the road.
Touching on the spate of accidents on the roads, ACP Awuni noted that, generally, accidents are on the ascendency and new trends of traffic indiscipline were emerging.
The use of motorbikes for commercial purposes (OKADA), u sing of mobile phones whilst driving, and of late the use of unregistered motorbikes and normal vehicles, especially during the night, he listed.
He said the new trends had become a major threat to traffic security and crime prevention.
