The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, Mr J. B. Danquah-Adu, has called on Ghanaians to celebrate their differences and work towards the creation of one big united family.

He said if all Ghanaians appreciate that they belonged to one big united family, despite differences of opinion among the citizens over issues, nobody would ever think of picking arms against each other and the country would continue to enjoy peace for a long time.

Mr Danquah-Adu was speaking at the thanksgiving service of the 34th Annual Synod of the Koforidua Diocese of the Methodist Church at Koforidua on Sunday where he and 40 other personalities were presented with awards for their contribution towards the growth and development of the Diocese.

Other personalities who were presented with awards include Dr E. A. Debrah, a retired diplomat and first Lay Chairman of the Diocese, Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah, Director General of Ghana Health Service, Mr George Kumi-Kyeremeh, head of Nursing Service and Ms Freda Janet Bediako-Asare, former headmistress of Mamfi Methodist Girls Senior High School.

The Synod which was attended by over 200 delegates from the various societies and circuits in the diocese was organized under the theme: “Witnessing to Christ; moving forward in the strength of the Lord”.

As part of the service, the newly elected Lay Chairperson of the diocese, Ms Lionnie Florence Gyebi-Twum, a Deputy Director of Education and Headmistress of Peduase Methodist Schools, was introduced to the gathering.

She is the fifth elected Lay Chairperson of the diocese and would be taking over from the outgoing Lay Chairman, Mr Samuel Sampon in October this year.

The Bishop of the diocese, Rt. Rev. Michael A. Bossman, called on the members of the church to emulate the example of the benefactors of the church some of whom are not Methodists and also donate towards the development of other churches and not the Methodist Church alone.

He called on Christians to love one another and work towards the peace of the country.
