Government has secured funding from the Austrian Government for the rehabilitation of the Adomi Bridge in the Eastern Region.
An Austrian firm, Messrs Bilfinger MCE Gmbh, has been engaged to undertake the rehabilitation works that is expected to be completed in 22 months, Minister of Roads and Highways, Amin Amidu Sulemani, said on the floor of Parliament on Friday.
The Minister, who is also the MP for Sissala West, was answering a question posed by the member for Ho West, Emmanuel Bedzrah, requesting to know when the bridge would be closed for commencement of rehabilitation works.
The Minister said the Austrian contractor was currently constructing its site camp on the west bank of the Adomi Bridge and that it would be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the rehabilitation works.
He said government had also secured funding to procure two ferries to be sited at Senchi, near the bridge, to ease the inconvenience to be caused to motorist and pedestrians.
The ferries are currently being manufactured in the Netherlands and the bridge would be closed to traffic when the ferries are commissioned for operation.
