Tension is gradually brewing in Tekyiman South in the Brong Ahafo region as residents and the supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) condemn and the Member of Parliament over what they described as the “lackadaisical attitude” by government to appoint a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the district.

The district, which has been without a DCE and a Presiding Officer for some time now, according to residents, lacks fundamental amenities and the necessary development since people who are supposed to spearhead that agenda are not at post.

To this end, the people are agitated with the low level of development as a result, and hence are resolved to demonstrate their anger against the President and the MP come election 2016.

In an exclusive interview with GO, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, Tekyiman South NDC Branch Chairman, disclosed that the district has received little attention from government as far as development is concerned.

He also alleged that ever since a confrontation ensued between the first two appointed DCEs, resulting in the termination of their nominations because of factionalism, the President has done nothing as regards appointing another DCE.

He maintained that for the President to pursue the “Better Ghana Ag3enda,” he must consider engaging all districts in his development agenda and that Tekyiman South cannot be an exception.

He, therefore, called on President Mahama to appoint a DCE for the district in order for the district to move forward in meeting its developmental goals and to better the lives of its people.

Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar indicated that the growth of every district depends on the availability of the DCE and his/her officers and the commitment from them to improve the state of the district, averring that the absence of the DCE in any district could cripple its onward march to transformation.

He charged the President to be bold and take a decision even though he might be faced with some agitations from people who might be against his decisions.

According to Alhaji Abubakar, the people of Tekyiman South campaigned vigorously for the NDC to win the elections in 2012, resulting in a resounding victory for President John Mahama and the MP, Hon. Adjei Mensah who now seem to be sitting aloof and in effect neglecting the district.

“Look the national cake must be shared so that every district can benefit. But as things stand now, our district, the Tekyiman South district is lagging behind when it comes to development. There is no DCE, not even a presiding officer, so how can we move forward as a district,” he said.

Alhaji Abubakar however cautioned that they have contained the situation for far too long hoping to hear something good coming from the presidency, but to no avail.
