3 Students Of St Andrews SHS Being Held By Police For Bullying

Three final year students of the St Andrews Senior High School at Assin Fosu in the Central region, have been arrested by the police for molesting a second year student of the school.

The victim, a 17-year-old form two student was said to have collapsed as a result of beatings from his seniors.

His crime was that, he failed to respond to a call for a jogging session on March 13, 2014.

The three students are being held by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Assin Fosu and are to be prosecuted.

Their names were given as Stephen Tawiah alias Hso Pee, 22, Bismark Gyau alias Old Soja 22, a school cadet officer and Ernest Obodai Darko, 19.

According to the Central Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, Mr George Appiah-Sakyi, on March 13, 2014, the three beat the 17 year old form two student for not responding to a jogging session till he collapsed.
The victim (name withheld) was rushed to the Assin Fosu hospital by some friends but he was later referred to the Central Regional Hospital as the situation became critical.

The victim’s uncle, Mr Robert Kwashie was said to have been advised by doctors at the Central Regional hospital to report the incident to the police.

Mr Appiah-Sakyi said the incident was reported to them on April 10, 2014 and the three were eventually arrested on April 24, 2014.

The victim’s medical report indicated that he sustained chest and abdominal injuries as a result of the beating.

The police officer said it was important for students to be law abiding.

He said currently the victim was wearing a catheter due to some complications.

“His condition is not so good and this is worrying,” he said.
The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Moses Ninson said the students who are in police custody would be put before court and described the situation as disturbing.
