Sephem Oil Ghana Limited at Jasikan in the Volta Region has donated a duty post to Ghana Police Service.

The two-room semi detached house cost GH20,000.

Mr. Samuel Adu Cochraine, Jasikan branch Manager of the oil firm, said the token was their social responsibility to the Police Service due to its proximity to the fuel station.

He said the makeshift wooden structure opposite the station was denigrating and worrisome during storms and this "touched our hearts and management decided to offer this assistance."

Mr Cochraine said the presence of police personnel on the highway had warded off armed robbers and added "This gesture is to say thank you."

Mr Peterking Y. Gyinae, the Volta Regional Police Commander, received the keys to the facility and thanked Sephem Oil for their generosity and called on other philanthropists to see the Police Service as allies and support them.

He called for a firmer relationship and collaboration with members of the public especially valuable leads for the arrest of criminals and miscreants in the society.

Mr Owuahene Adjei Acheampong, the Jasikan District Police Commander, spoke about the harsh conditions under which service personnel worked and that office and residential accommodations were in deplorable state with badly leaking roofs and peeling walls.

Mr Acheampong asked for more men to shore up numbers, in order that cross border crime fighting could be bolstered due to the long and porous frontier with Togo.
