Some members of the Suame Spare Parts Dealers Association on Monday locked up shops belonging to retailers suspected to be Nigerians at the Suame Magazine in Kumasi.
Their action was to express their displeasure over the influx of foreigners into retail trade in the country.
The Suame Magazine which is recognized as the largest artisan engineering center in Sub-Saharan Africa employs about 200,000 workers.
By law, the sale of goods and provision of services in the market, petty trading, hawking, taxi services, operation of beauty salons and barbering shops are the preserve of Ghanaians therefore, non-Ghanaians or non-citizens cannot operate in that market.
The police are yet to make any arrests.
