The National Chief Imam of the Republic of Ghana, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has appealed to organized labour to rethink its decision to embark on a nationwide strike to demonstrate against what they termed as “the worsening economic situation” in the country.

The National Chief Imam admonished them to consider the possible ramifications of such an action on an already struggling economy, not to mention the colossal lost of revenue the economy may suffer if organized labour pushes through with the intended strike action.

Sheikh Dr. Nuhu Sharubutu also reminded them of the verse in the Holy Quran chapters 5 and 6 which reads “verily, along with every hardship is relief”.

… “there is one hardship with two reliefs, so one hardship cannot overcome two reliefs, let us not react hysterical in our legitimate demands in other not to compound the already troubled economy,” he said.

According to the Chief Imam, in view of the government’s commitment it is incumbent on organized labour and for that matter all Ghanaians to support H.E. John Dramani Mahama in his tireless effort to move our dear country Ghana forward.

The Grand Mufti of Ghana, Sheikh Sharubutu made this call on Saturday the 19th of July to mark the closing ceremony of the national annual Ramadan Quran commentary at the Abosey Okai Central mosque in Accra.

The national Chief Imam also prayed for the nation, the President and the good people of Ghana.

The call comes on the back of a planned industrial strike action on the 24th of July, 2014 by organized labour to press home demand for better conditions of service and for government to take measures to address the numerous economic challenges.
