The brother of Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando accused of killing their mother had left Nairobi about a month ago, a relative disclosed on Monday.

Mr Caesar Thiari Mwangi was on Monday charged with the murder of his mother Rose Wachera Mwangi.

Ms Gladys Wanjiru Njuki, 50, a cousin of the deceased, said Mr Mwangi used to live in Nairobi and would only visit the home occasionally.

But a month ago, the man moved back home in Ngaine village, Mukurwe-ini. ďHe used to visit home regularly and stay for days or weeks. But prior to Sundayís incident he had been here for about a month,Ē she added.

On Monday, a sombre mood engulfed the village as relatives and workers trickled to the home.

Mr Kabando had not arrived from Australia by the time our news crew left his motherís home.

The MPís departed mother Ms Rose Wachera Mwangi, 70, and fondly known as Wa Kariuki in the village, was hacked to death on Sunday afternoon.

Relatives and friends described her as humble, composed and generous.

ďShe was a woman of few words,Ē said Mr Mike Wambui, a close family friend.

He said the MPís mother rarely quarrelled with others and she interacted freely with her neighbours.

Similar sentiments were shared by Ms Njuki who described her as a humble, loving and caring mother who earned respect from the community for her good character.

Ms Njuki said Wa Kariuki was fair to all her six children (three women and three men) and treated them equally.

The MPís mother was a devoted member of Ngaini PCEA church where she used to worship, but on that fateful Sunday when she was killed, she had not attended the service.

ďShe was a polite, kind and lovely woman. She used to help those in need and participated in the community activities,Ē said Ms Njuki.

The family said meetings to plan the funeral had started, in Nairobi and Mukurwe-ini.
