Three persons were burnt beyond recognition when a truck on which they were travelling veered off the road and caught fire last Saturday at Hebron Junction, near Nsawam.

It took a combined team of policemen drawn from the Amasaman and Nsawam District Police Commands about 14 hours to remove the charred remains that were trapped under the truck.

At the time the Daily Graphic visited the accident scene at Hebron Junction yesterday, the truck, with registration number GR 3675 Z, which was loaded with coiled iron rods, had been moved to the Accra -Nsawam side of the road.

The mangled truck and its front tyres had been burnt.

Only the driver of the truck has been identified as Mustapha Mohammed Wool.

The identities of the other two persons are yet to be established by the police

The incident
According to the Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at the Nsawam District Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Samuel Ntosoh, the three men, suspected to be in their mid 30’s, were travelling to Burkina Faso from Tema.

He said at around 11:30p.m. last Saturday, the truck veered off the road into a ditch at Hebron Junction, trapping the driver, Mustapha Mohammed Wool, and two others under the truck.

The police, he said, were yet to conclude their investigations to determine the cause of the accident.

Rescue team
DSP Ntosoh said the police, together with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), arrived at the scene 30 minutes after the accident, but found it difficult to remove the trapped bodies.

He stated that the bodies had been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital for autopsy.
