The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Alhassan has been appointed President of Inspector General of Police in the ECOWAS sub-region.
The announcement was made in Lome, Togo, where ECOWAS Security Chiefs are holding a meeting.
Mr. Alhassan will lead the police chiefs in West Africa for the next two years after his Ivorian colleague, Bredou Mbia.
Reports say, issues of terrorism, cross-border crime and the deadly Ebola disease are taking a center stage at the ongoing ECOWAS security chiefs meeting which is also chaired by Ghanas Interior Minister Mark Woyongo.
Mr. Woyongo has urged member states not to hide information from each other if they could achieve their goals.
He said: The increasing challenges militating against regional peace and stability call for the need for member countries to present an effective mechanism for regional integration in the area of security and crime.
