Former National Youth Organizer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh has attributed the nationwide strike of the 12 Labor Unions to lack of trust in the ruling National Democratic Congress government led by President John Mahama.

According to him, the NDC government has not done anything in the past years for Ghanaians to be convinced enough to entrust the tier two pension funds into their hands, hence their demand for the pension funds despite the government's safety assurance of the funds.

Speaking on Oman FM’s Morning Show, Kabila as he is known in political circles, has wondered why it has become difficult for the President Mahama-led government to release the funds to the labor unions as the law permit.

He however asserted that the workers are not buying the assurance of the government over the safety of the funds due to trust which does not exist between the two parties.

“I have given you money to keep for me and I am now coming for it; this should not call for a fight or an argument. This is as simple as that...what are the workers asking for? NDC government is demanding that people should trust them, but over the years, the government has not made any effort and portrays any attitude that will convince me, Kabila to trust them. I am not by that saying we cannot trust them in the future but for now, there is no trust," he opined.

He has further admonished government to strive to resolve the tier two pension issue, asking the Minister of Employment and the Attorney General to pull the strike case from the court before negotiation process.

“The Minister and the Attorney General should go back to the drawing board and if they want to sit down with the workers for negotiations, the best option for them is to pull the case from the court; otherwise, you are encouraging the strike to prolong unduly and it will not lead us anywhere,” he warned.
