The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), is prepared to handle the consequences of the nationwide indefinite strike by the Forum for Public Sector Registered Pension Schemes.

Mr Linus Attey, Volta Regional Secretary of GNAT, gave the assurance in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the GNAT Secretariat in Ho.

GNAT is among Teacher Unions, which has, in addition to the pension-related strike, declared another indefinite strike starting from Tuesday October 28, over the settlement of outstanding issues affecting its members.

Mr Attey hinted that the Union would look for money to pay allowances to its members should their salaries be withheld.

On the instructional hours lost to pupils and students, he said, these would be made up for by the extension of the school term and short holiday without any extra school fees.

He said second cycle school teachers were taking new first year students through admission procedures, because they could not be sent back home.

Mr Attey said, otherwise members of the teacher unions were observing the indefinite strike.
