Ghanaian workers of MODEC Ghana Limited, the company that operates and maintains the oil drilling ship FPSO Kwame Nkrumah on the Jubilee Field are on strike, meaning oil production has halted.

The workers, numbering about 40, are claiming their decision is as a result of poor working conditions as compared to their expatriate counterparts.

According to them, they receive an average of between 2,500 and 3000 Ghana cedis a month whilst their expatriate counterparts take between $5000 and $10,000.

The aggrieved workers told the GNA they would not resume work until something positive is heard from their employers.

Mr. Eric Ofori, the Secretary of the union, confirmed the story to the GNA and said the workers would continue to press home their demands for better conditions of service.
