Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council , Prosper Setor Tsomana has described as false, reports that best farmers in the Eastern Region were awarded with only two pieces of Toilet rolls and two bottles of Joy Dadi bitters.

According to him, Joy Industries, producers of Joy Dadi bitters, who were one of the sponsors of the 2014 Farmers Day celebration in the Eastern Region, handed over packs of Joy Dadi as part of the sponsorship and the authorities decided to share them among the award winners.

It was reported that some farmers selected to be awarded at the 2014 edition of the national best farmerís day at in the Eastern Region were awarded with two pieces of Toilet rolls and two bottles of Joy Dadi bitters.

The items were presented at a ceremony held to honour them in Koforidua on Friday.

The event, celebrated on the first Friday of December every year, is meant to honour the contributions of farmers to the development of the country.

However, the farmers were dismayed when they discovered that instead of items of value to be given them to compensate for their years of tilling the land, also had bottles of the alcoholic beverage as part of their prize.

Adom FM reporter, Kofi Siaw who was present at the event reported that the farmers were even more upset when the Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako Sekyere stated in his speech at the gathering that the government was committed to the welfare of farmers, hence the prizes being handed over.

But Mr. Setor Tsomana indicated on Adom FMís Midday News that ďIt is not true that the farmers were only given Joy Dadi bitters and Toilet Rolls. Though Joy Dadi were also sponsors of the Farmers Day, award winning farmers in the Eastern Region did not get only Joy Dadi bitters and Toilet Rolls as it has been reported.

ďThe farmers had two bottles of Joy Dadi bitter and Toilet Rolls because we got some packs from Joy Dadi and so as a means of distributing the items to cover all the selected farmers, we decided to divide the bitters amongst them and that is what we did.

ďThe farmers were awarded with items such as tricycles, bags of cement, agro-chemicals, and other products that will help them in their profession.Ē
