The Director of Public Relations and External Affairs of the Public Utility Regulations Commission (PURC), says the power rationing would not end soon because demand for electricity by Ghanaians and industries far out-strips supply.

Nana Yaa Jantuah explained that, the only way to minimise the power challenges is for Ghanaians to adopt the habit of conserving power.

Nana Yaa Jantuah said this when the leadership of the PURC held an interaction with journalists in Koforidua.

She explained that, Ghana had found itself in a situation where it is not generating adequate power and this should not be described as “bad service”.

Nana Yaa Jantuah also assured of PURC’s support to a national policy decision to ensure that, existing and new buildings or estates are made to employ the use of solar energy to conserve power.

She however debunked the notion that, government interferes with the work of the PURC, saying: “We are an independent regulatory body and government does not interfere with our work.”

“Since I joined the PURC, no government has ever interfered with the Commission’s work,” she stressed.
