Residents of Kpone went on rampage Tuesday, vandalising property in a demonstration which they said was to register their protest over the indiscriminate selling of land by the elders of the town as well as the worsening energy crisis.
The irate locals said they did not understand why they had to experience planned power outages (dumsor) even though the 200 megawatts Sunon-Asogli power plant was located in their community.
They have accordingly threatened to burn down the plant of power supply to their area was not improved.
According to Accra-based Starr FM, the few police officers on the ground were finding it difficult to maintain law and order and had called for reinforcement.
The report said the demonstrators had destroyed a structure under construction near the Kpone Cemetery and had gone ahead to torch wooden structures housing workers at the site.
