Days after the Ghana Police Service was hit with a massive recruitment scam, it has been reported that a similar situation is rearing its ugly head within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Eric Aggrey-Quashie, Director of Public Affairs of the GAF, who confirmed the report to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, however said the victims are reluctant in giving out information.
According to him, majority of the victims don’t know the real names of those they gave the money to.
“When you approach them, they don’t want to tell you those who are involved. Sometimes, they will mention commander, commander but they don’t know the exact name,” he said.
"Some people have been arrested” he said but quickly added that they (culprits) are not army officers.
“When issues like this occur, we try to keep it on the quiet and let the intelligence people handle the matter. So far, those who have been arrested are not soldiers…” he added.
He urged people who have been duped to report at the army post at Burma Camp.
Army Mess
There were also reports that the Army Mess opposite the 37 Military Hospital in Accra was going to be demolished.
The mess is used as a recreational centre for military officers and it is well known centre for tennis lovers.
